DESCRIPTION

Wolfhound Lite Jacket - taiga green is the particularly lightweight full-zip version of the Helikon-Tex Wolfhound family. It is intended for situations where a normal fleece jacket offers insufficient wind protection, but a classic insulation jacket provides more warmth and bulk than necessary. The taiga green version combines a very low weight with synthetic insulation, a wind-resistant nylon outer material, and a water-repellent surface treatment.

259 grams: hardly any ballast as a reserve

Helikon-Tex specifies a weight of approximately 259 g for the Wolfhound Lite. The lightweight construction utilizes 40 g/m² synthetic insulation and a very light nylon outer fabric. As such, it is not a winter jacket, but rather a transitional and layering solution for moderate conditions. This is particularly appealing for hiking, traveling, everyday use, or high-intensity activities: the jacket provides additional warmth without requiring you to carry around bulky cold-weather protection.

The full-length front zipper is a practical difference compared to the Hoodie Lite version. You can quickly open the jacket completely when the exertion increases, and close it just as quickly as soon as you stop or the wind picks up. This makes the full-zip version particularly pleasant when activity levels and temperatures change frequently.

Construction and features

  • approx. 259 g lightweight
  • 40 g/m² synthetic insulation
  • lightweight nylon outer material
  • hydrophobic/DWR surface treatment
  • full-length YKK® front zipper
  • two side pockets plus chest pocket
  • elastic cuffs
  • adjustable hem
  • velcro/ID patches on the upper arms
  • highly compressible for backpacks and luggage

What characterizes the Wolfhound family

The basic principle is similar for all Wolfhound models: a synthetic insulation layer is combined with a light, quick-drying outer material. The advantage over classic down lies primarily in the fact that synthetic insulation retains its structure and a large part of its thermal performance even when damp. At the same time, the pack size remains small enough to carry the jacket as a reserve in a daypack, vehicle, or travel bag.

The hydrophobic or DWR-treated exterior helps to initially repel light precipitation, splash water, and dirt. This does not make the jacket waterproof. In persistent rain, a proper hardshell should be worn over it. It is precisely as part of such a layering system that the Wolfhound series plays to its strengths: low weight, quickly available warmth, and significantly better wind protection than open-pored fleece.

How to use the Wolfhound Lite effectively

During active movement, a thin base layer under the jacket is often sufficient. If it gets colder, you can supplement it with a functional shirt or a light midlayer underneath. In wind and during short breaks, the Wolfhound Lite can function as an outer insulation layer; in wet, prolonged weather, a hardshell goes over it. The full-zip design facilitates this combination because you can quickly regulate temperature and ventilation.

The Lite version is deliberately not designed for longer stationary periods at low temperatures. Those who want significantly more warmth reserve should choose the 67g class within the Wolfhound family. Conversely, the Lite is often the better choice when every gram counts and the jacket remains in the backpack for most of the day.

Wolfhound Lite, Hoodie Lite or the warmer 67g version?

The Wolfhound Hoodie Lite Jacket uses the same ultralight basic concept, but adds a hood and uses a shortened front zipper. It is particularly practical if you prefer a layer that can be pulled over quickly with additional protection for the head and neck. The Wolfhound Hoodie Jacket 67 g offers noticeably more insulation reserve with Climashield® Apex™ 67 g/m² and is the better choice for cooler conditions or longer rest periods.

Who is the Wolfhound Lite for?

  • for the transitional period, spring, and autumn
  • for active outdoor use and hiking
  • as an extremely lightweight reserve jacket in the backpack
  • for travel, EDC, and daily commutes
  • as an insulating midlayer under a hardshell
  • for users who prefer full-zip ventilation over a pullover construction

If you are looking for an insulation jacket that is as light and uncomplicated as possible, can be packed away small, and can be quickly opened completely when needed, the Wolfhound Lite in taiga green is the balanced full-zip option of the current Wolfhound Lite family.
