DESCRIPTION

The Helikon-Tex MBDU Shirt NyCo Ripstop in Olive is a modern field and functional top for users looking for robust uniform clothing with significantly more freedom of movement than classic field shirts. Its construction combines durable NyCo Ripstop with large elastic panels on the sides and targeted ventilation under the arms. This makes the shirt suitable for training, outdoor use, airsoft, work, and professional applications where the top is worn for many hours.

Compared to a combat shirt, the MBDU is built entirely from robust outer fabric and can therefore be worn as a standalone top without a plate carrier or additional outer layer. At the same time, it is more agile and has a more modern cut than traditional field shirts.

NyCo Ripstop – A balanced combination of robustness and comfort

According to Helikon-Tex, the main material consists of 50% nylon and 50% cotton as NyCo Ripstop with approximately 225 g/m². Nylon increases resistance to abrasion and mechanical stress, while cotton improves the feel and comfort during extended wear. The ripstop structure additionally reinforces the fabric and helps to locally limit minor damage.

NyCo is not a waterproof membrane and should not be understood as such. Its strength lies in the combination of durability, air permeability, and a significantly more textile feel compared to coated weather protection materials.

VersaStretch® side panels and mesh ventilation

Wide panels of 93% nylon and 7% elastane run along the sides of the torso. This VersaStretch® material stretches in four directions and reduces tension in the fabric when you bend down, kneel, move your arms forward, or work for long periods with a backpack and gear.

Mesh panels under the arms support air circulation. Especially during physical activity, this is a real advantage over fully enclosed, classic field shirts. The MBDU remains a robust uniform top, however, and does not replace a weather protection jacket in heavy rain or cold wind.

Four YKK® zippered pockets sensibly distributed

The MBDU shirt features four functional pockets: two expandable chest pockets and two upper arm pockets. All are closed with YKK® zippers. The shoulder pockets remain relatively easy to access even when a backpack strap or carrying system partially covers the chest area.

The layout is deliberately clear. Instead of incorporating as many small compartments as possible, the shirt focuses on easily accessible storage space for documents, a smartphone, note-taking materials, gloves, and other flat equipment.

Collar, sleeves, and personalization

The stand-up collar can be worn open or turned up and secured with Velcro. Adjustable sleeve cuffs make it easier to adapt to gloves and various base layers. The front is closed with concealed Canadian buttons, which reduces hard, protruding elements.

Velcro panels on the upper arms and chest allow for name strips, insignias, or patches. Reinforced elbows and prepared areas for optional inserts increase practicality during frequent contact with the ground.

Color: Olive

The Olive version does not change the material, cut, or features. Choose the color based on your typical operational environment and how unobtrusive or outdoor-oriented you want the garment to look.

MBDU Shirt or MCDU Combat Shirt?

The Helikon-Tex MCDU Combat Shirt is more optimized for wearing under vests and carrying systems: the torso is lighter and closer to the body, while robust areas are primarily located on the arms and shoulders. The MBDU, on the other hand, is the more versatile standalone top if you are looking for a consistently robust field shirt.

For a long day without an additional vest, the MBDU is usually more universal. If the torso is permanently under equipment and the least amount of material possible is desired there, the MCDU Combat Shirt has advantages.

MBDU or Raid Shirt?

The Helikon-Tex Raid Shirt is a lighter, stripped-back alternative based on a more classic field shirt concept. Thanks to VersaStretch side panels, mesh ventilation, and four zippered pockets, the MBDU offers a more technical design. Those who prioritize maximum mobility and modern organization will tend to choose the MBDU; the Raid Shirt may be more suitable for a simpler, lighter uniform top.
