DESCRIPTION
The Helikon-Tex OTP – Outdoor Tactical Pants with VersaStretch® are designed for users who need plenty of freedom of movement and are looking for functional trousers for longer outdoor activities, travel, training, and dynamic work. Compared to classic cotton ripstop trousers, the OTP relies entirely on elastic VersaStretch®. As a result, the fabric follows movements when climbing, kneeling, hiking, and taking long strides much better and dries comparatively quickly when damp.
The OTP are not heavy combat trousers, but movement-oriented outdoor tactical pants. They combine an anatomical cut with 10 functional pockets, an adjustable waistband, wide belt loops, and prepared knee areas. This makes them particularly interesting if you are looking for trousers that feel less stiff than classic tactical clothing during long treks or active training.
VersaStretch® – why do the OTP feel so flexible?
The main material consists of 93% nylon and 7% elastane. The VersaStretch® construction stretches in four directions. This is particularly noticeable when you take large strides, climb, squat, or remain in motion for longer periods. Nylon provides abrasion resistance and short drying times, while the elastane content enables flexibility.
The surface is also treated to be water and dirt repellent. However, this does not mean that the OTP are waterproof. The material is better at repelling light moisture and short showers than untreated fabric, but you will still need a proper rain protection layer in persistent rain.
10 pockets – organization without a bulky silhouette
The pockets are positioned so that gear stays as close to the hips and center of the body as possible. Two classic front pockets have reinforced edges for items with clips. These are complemented by wide back pockets with additional narrow inner compartments, flat thigh pockets with YKK® zippers, and smaller, close-fitting compartments for a smartphone, EDC, or similarly sized items.
EDC stands for "Everyday Carry" – i.e., things you carry with you frequently, such as a smartphone, keys, flashlight, or multitool. The OTP are well-suited for this because the pockets are not only large but also offer different formats. This means not everything has to sit together in a single cargo pocket.
Waistband and belt – designed for movement
The waistband is adjusted via Velcro and features an elastic section that can compensate for small changes when sitting, walking, or wearing an additional base layer. The belt loops are designed for belts up to approximately 50 mm wide. At the front, there are additional loops to which small items can be attached using a carabiner or safety lanyard.
The waistband adjustment does not replace a proper size, however. For a good fit, you should choose your waist measurement and leg length according to the size chart. If you mainly wear the OTP with thicker thermal underwear in winter, you should take this extra space into account when comparing sizes.
Knee area and leg cuffs
The knees are anatomically shaped and prepared for separately available low-profile protective inserts. This is practical if you kneel frequently during work, training, or outdoor activities without wanting to wear permanent external knee pads. The leg cuffs are also prepared so that they can be tightened with a cord if required.
OTP, SFU Next Mk2, or MCDU – which trousers are right for you?
If your focus is on freedom of movement, hiking, and longer outdoor activities, the OTP are the sportier choice within this selection. If, on the other hand, you are looking for more classic field trousers with larger cargo pockets, a more pronounced uniform look, and less close-fitting pocket organization, the Helikon-Tex SFU Next Mk2 Pants are the more suitable alternative.
If you are looking for much more robust and field-oriented trousers with distinct reinforcements and a combat construction, the Helikon-Tex MCDU Pants are the better direction. The MCDU are heavier and feature a more technical design. The OTP sit in between: significantly sportier than classic combat trousers, but more functional and geared toward the outdoors than ordinary leisure pants.
For what temperatures are the OTP suitable?
The classic OTP with VersaStretch® are versatile trousers for moderate conditions and high-movement use. In warmth, they benefit from the breathable, quick-drying fabric construction. For very hot summer days, there are lighter VersaStretch® Lite models; for cold conditions, combine the OTP with a suitable base layer. They are not lined.
Adaptive Green color – who is it for?
Adaptive Green is a muted shade of green that goes particularly well with outdoor activities, hiking, bushcraft, and nature-oriented leisure. The color is less conspicuous than a camouflage pattern and can easily be combined with black, coyote, gray, or other shades of green. If you want to wear the OTP both outdoors and in everyday life, Adaptive Green is a very flexible choice.

We recommend the OTP above all if you move around a lot and are looking for trousers that restrict you as little as possible. For hiking, travel, outdoor, training, work, and long active days, the combination of 4-way stretch and close-fitting pocket organization is very convincing. If you prefer more classic cargo organization and a more pronounced field trouser cut, the SFU Next Mk2 is more interesting; if maximum reinforcement and combat equipment are decisive, you should go for the MCDU.
