DESCRIPTION

Wolfhound Lite Jacket - black is the ultra-lightweight full-zip version of the Wolfhound family from Helikon-Tex. It is designed for situations where a standard fleece jacket doesn't provide enough wind protection, but a classic insulated jacket offers more warmth and bulk than necessary. The black version combines a very low-weight design with synthetic insulation, a wind-resistant nylon outer fabric, and a water-repellent surface treatment.

259 grams: hardly any ballast as a backup

Helikon-Tex specifies a weight of approximately 259 g for the Wolfhound Lite. The lightweight construction uses 40 g/m² synthetic insulation and a very light nylon outer fabric. This makes it not a winter jacket, but a transitional and layering solution for temperate conditions. It is particularly interesting for hiking, traveling, everyday use, or high-motion activities: the jacket provides additional warmth without requiring you to carry around bulky insulation.

The full-length front zipper is a practical difference compared to the Hoodie Lite version. You can open the jacket fully and quickly when your exertion increases, and close it just as quickly when you stop or the wind picks up. This makes the full-zip variant particularly comfortable when activity levels and temperatures change frequently.

Construction and Features

  • approx. 259 g lightweight
  • 40 g/m² synthetic insulation
  • lightweight nylon outer fabric
  • hydrophobic/DWR surface treatment
  • full-length YKK® front zipper
  • two side pockets plus a chest pocket
  • elastic cuffs
  • adjustable hem
  • Velcro/ID patches on the upper arms
  • highly compressible for backpack and luggage

What sets the Wolfhound family apart

The basic principle is similar for all Wolfhound models: a synthetic insulation layer is combined with a lightweight, quick-drying outer material. The advantage over classic down is primarily that synthetic insulation retains its structure and a large part of its thermal performance even when damp. At the same time, the pack size remains small enough to take the jacket along as a backup in a daypack, vehicle, or travel bag.

The hydrophobic or DWR-treated outer side helps to repel light precipitation, splash water, and dirt. This does not make the jacket waterproof. In persistent rain, a true hardshell should be worn over it. The Wolfhound series plays to its strengths precisely as part of such a layering system: low weight, quickly available warmth, and significantly better wind protection than open-pore fleece.

How to use the Wolfhound Lite effectively

During active movement, a thin base layer under the jacket is often sufficient. If it gets colder, you can add a functional shirt or a light midlayer underneath. In wind and during short breaks, the Wolfhound Lite can function as an outer insulation layer; in wet, long-lasting weather, a hardshell goes over the top. The full-zip design facilitates this combination, as you can quickly regulate temperature and ventilation.

The Lite version is intentionally not designed for long periods of standing still in low temperatures. Anyone wanting significantly more thermal reserve should opt for the 67 g class within the Wolfhound family. Conversely, the Lite is often the better choice when every gram counts and the jacket remains in the backpack for most of the day.

Wolfhound Lite, Hoodie Lite, or the warmer 67 g version?

The Wolfhound Hoodie Lite Jacket uses the same ultra-light basic concept, but adds a hood and uses a shorter front zipper. It is particularly practical if you prefer a quickly donned layer with additional protection for your head and neck. The Wolfhound Hoodie Jacket 67 g offers noticeably more insulation reserve with Climashield® Apex™ 67 g/m² and is the better choice for cooler conditions or longer rest periods.

Who is the Wolfhound Lite for?

  • for the transition period, spring, and autumn
  • for active outdoor use and hiking
  • as an extremely light backup jacket in your backpack
  • for travel, EDC, and the daily commute
  • as an insulating midlayer under a hardshell
  • for users who prefer full-zip ventilation over a pullover design

If you are looking for an uncomplicated, lightweight insulation jacket that can be packed down small and opened completely when needed, the Wolfhound Lite in black is the well-balanced full-zip option of the current Wolfhound Lite family.
