Activated carbon refill pack for the Katadyn Combi Filter. Activated carbon is used for its reducing effect against organic, inorganic and harmful substances in water. It reduces taste and odor substances as well as chlorine, pesticides (lindane, DDT) and trihalomethanes (THMs). The substances are adsorbed by the large surface of the activated carbon. When they are completely loaded, the activated carbon can no longer be regenerated and must be renewed.
Ceramic filters have a microporous layer with embedded silver, which delays bacterial growth. The pore size of all Katadyn ceramic filters is 0.2 micron (0.0002 mm). Bacteria range in size from 0.2 to 5 microns and can therefore be filtered out efficiently, as can protozoa (1 to 15 microns). Ceramic filter elements can be cleaned. Their filtering capacity is measurable.
